BAPTIZE

" . . . although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were" (John 4:2).

It's interesting that baptism is important enough that Jesus teaches His disciples to do it and yet it is not so important as to require Him to personally baptize anyone. The Bible does not teach that baptism is essential for salvation but rather that it is essential for obedience. Jesus' death on the cross establishes our salvation--our baptism symbolizes our acceptance and participation in Jesus' sacrifice. It is a first step of obedience in following Jesus. Jesus Himself was baptized by John, setting the example for all who would follow. Jesus' final words to us in Matthew's gospel include the command to, "Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:18-20).

Soon, we will gather as a church family and baptize all who would desire it. If you have not yet been baptized as an adult, give it some thought and some prayer. Let's do what Jesus did!
