GENTLE

"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle..." (James 3:17).

The word "gentle" signifies a humble patience, a steadfastness able to submit to injustice, disgrace, and maltreatment without hatred and malice, trusting in God in spite of all of it (Rogers & Robers, p561).  That's quite a big definition packed into such a little word.  God's wisdom is packaged in gentleness.  It's not defensive.  It's not impatient.  It's not proud.  It's not bitter.  This hits  home for me this morning because (like you) there have been times when I have not been treated in a way that I felt was appropriate.  "Wisdom" does not have to fight back or shout or yell in order to be heard.  "Wisdom" can take it on the chin and still survive without needing to hit back.

I'm going to have to work on this one...how about you?
